Furniture and carpet for home

Furniture is the collective term for the movable objects which may support the human body (seating furniture and beds), provide storage, or hold objects on horizontal surfaces above the ground. Storage furniture (which often makes use of doors, drawers, and shelves) is used to hold or contain smaller objects such as clothes, tools, books, and household goods.

The most popular form of furniture is made of real wood finished your way. This entails a piece of solid wood furniture that is usually purchased unfinished and then finished anyway the end user would like. To combat the misleading notion that anything else counts as furniture the "Unfinished Furniture Association" was formed to educate the public.

Carpet:
A carpet is any loom-woven, felted textile or grass floor covering. The term was also used for table and wall coverings, as carpets were not commonly used on the floor in European interiors until the 18th century. Carpet-making was introduced to Spain in 10th century by the Moors. The Crusades brought Turkish carpets to all of Europe, where they were primarily hung on walls or used on tables.

Only with the opening of trade routes in the 17th century were significant numbers of Persian rugs introduced to Western Europe.

Some use the words carpet and rug interchangeably. Historically, however, some have distinguished between carpet and rug based on size (the former being larger) or use (carpets on floors, rugs on beds or on the hearth). For the sake of clarity, some textile scholars also differentiate between carpets and carpeting (also known as fitted carpet or wall-to-wall carpet). In the real estate and home improvement industries a distinction is made between carpet (or carpeting) and rug. The former indicates a covering that is affixed to a floor and the latter a floor covering that is loose-laid, most often for decorative purposes.

Carpet types:

1.    Woven.
2.    Tufted.
3.    Color Tec
4.    Needle felt
5.    Flat weave.
6.    Hooked rug
7.    Knotted pile.

Woven:
The carpet is produced on a loom similar to woven cloth and is a cut pile. Normally many colored yarns are used and this process is capable of producing intricate patterns from pre-determined designs. These carpets are normally the most expensive.

Tufted:
The carpet is produced on a tufting machine using a single-colored or sometimes non-colored yarn. If non-colored yarn is used the carpet will later be dyed or printed with a design. Tufted carpets can be either cut pile, loop pile or a combination of both.

Color Tec:
A color Tec carpet is manufactured on a tufting machine but is capable of producing a design that is close to that of a woven carpet.

Needle felt:
These carpets are more technologically advanced. Needle felts are produced by electrostatic attraction of individual synthetic fibers forming an extremely durable carpet. These carpets are normally found in the contract market such as hotels etc. where there is a lot of traffic.

Flat Weave:

A flat weave carpet is created by interlocking warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads.

Hooked Rug:
A hooked rug is a simple type of rug handmade by pulling strips of cloth such as wool or cotton through the meshes of a sturdy fabric such as burlap. This type of rug is now generally made as a handicraft.

Knotted Pile:
Knotted pile carpet (formally, a supplementary weft cut-loop pile carpet), the structural weft threads alternate with a supplementary weft that rises at right angles to the surface of the weave.

Upholstery cleaning: Why is it needed?

All about Upholstery cleaning

Having furniture bare is not advisable as the dust seems to settle in its crevices. Furniture cleaning becomes exceedingly difficult in such cases. Upholstery is extensively used to protect the furniture and make the furniture look they have just been brought from the shop. Merely getting the furniture upholstered is not enough. Upholstery cleaning is also vital.

Make your furniture look like new

Any home would be incomplete without upholstery. But getting ideal upholstery for the house is not enough. It has to be maintained properly so that it looks likes a new set of furniture. People generally prefer upholstery because it forms a protective covering on the furniture so that they are not affected by bacteria and dust.

Upholstery cleaning is important as it helps in purifying the air that the members of the house breathe. The dust from the upholstery has to be cleaned on a regular basis so that the dust does not mix with the air that is circulating in the house. Many people feel that their responsibility is over with the purchase of the upholstery, but the amount of damage that the dirty upholstery creates is unimaginable. Upholstered furniture protection is vital as it will extend the life of the upholstery. Upholstery cleansers should be used every alternate year so that it does not accumulate too much of dust.

Furniture cleaning is a difficult job as the dirt sets in ever nook and corner of the furniture. Although furniture cleansers are available, cleaning a piece of furniture is stressful and time consuming. Getting the dust out from the tiny carvings is tough. Cleaning the upholstery is easier than the cleaning the furniture. A routine cleaning of the upholstery is required just as we need to clean all the other things in our house. Leather sofa cleaning along with microfiber furniture cleaning is tiring but is worth it. After each cleaning, the furniture looks like it has just been bought.

No one likes to see a dirty piece of furniture in the house and it reflects badly on the person living in it. Dirty furniture is also harmful for the health as it creates health complications like allergies and breathing problems. Steam cleaning is a great way of cleaning upholstery as it removes all the worms and mites present in the upholstery. There are numerous germs that nest in the dirty upholstery. They have to be removed to allow one to lead a healthy life.

Cleaning the upholstery every year is a better option as it will make the furniture look even better, and will also make them last for a longer period of time. There are ways of making the furniture look like new. If a person makes the use of an upholstered furniture protector, which is of a superior quality, the furniture is bound to look shiny. The furniture should be moved every now and then so that only side of the furniture is not worn off.

The vacuum cleaners should be used every month to lower the amount of accumulated dirt and pet furs. The most one can do to take care of the furniture is to clean the furniture and the upholstery himself/herself. No one will be able to do it more efficiently.
